Accessibility Statements

If there are ways we can be more accessible, please contact us. Also see our communications guidelines.

1. NEUROMANCERS was created specifically for and by queer, Black & brown neurodivergent people. Others are welcome but will not be centred.

In understanding the various systems of oppression which marginalise us, we are do not accept or tolerate ableism; racism, anti-blackness and white supremacy; anti-queerness in all its forms; ageism; sex-shaming, rape culture, abuse apologism or patriarchal attitudes; ecocide or eco-fascism; speciesism, animal exploitation or abuse. We hold abolitionist values and therefore are in support of prisoners and incarcerated people.

2. We are a youth-led and intergenerational organisation.

We are open to families, parents, young people, old people and children being part of our events, programs and initiatives. We stand in solidarity with the youth liberation struggle, so have clear age-markers regarding everything we do.

3. Our events are (mostly) dry spaces.

We make the distinction between being dry and being sober. you can be in the space without being sober as long as you’re respectful. Many of our events are online, therefore if you are consuming drugs/alcohol/smoking/taking medication, was ask that you do so with your camera off or use containers that hide the drinks. This is to respect those who may be triggered by substances, sober people and young people.

4. We communicate in English and have captions at all of our events.

Other languages and forms of communication such as BSL, ASL, Spanish, Russian, transcripts etc. can possibly be made available on request. We use alt-text where possible and write image descriptions. NEUROMANCERS also tries to use accessible colours and fonts. (We are still learning more about communication-based accessibility so let us know how we can improve.)

5. We use a sliding-scale system for financial accessibility.

We sliding-scale and free access tickets for all of our events. In line with our values of honesty and vulnerability, we trust that those who can offer more will do so.

6. We support survivors. Whether you are a survivor of sexual violence, physical abuse, emotional abuse, psychological abuse, financial abuse, or religious abuse. If you disclose a person or group of peoples abusive and/or harmful behaviour, we will believe you and we will take it seriously. We won’t share that information, or act on it, without your explicit consent.

Thank you to די ראָזעווע פּאַווע – pink peacock for inspiring much of the language and points for this accessibility statement.
